Drew Magary from KSK and Deadspin joins the show to talk about this weekend’s NFL Draft.

We ask Drew if he’s a ‘draftnik’ or one of those football fans who thinks that the game is the only thing that matters. Turns out, Drew likes the draft -- making the rest of this interview much better -- and gets angry at the people who mock draft fans...and people who are fans of mock drafts, I suppose.  Drew dispels the myth that fans of the draft are the uniformed NFL watchers. In fact, people who care enough to watch the draft are, by the experience watching that telecast, more informed.

TV employs many silly gimmicks into their coverage, from the round-table discussions with players to the mini-field to the Hotline du-jour and war-room cameras, so what is Drew’s favorite draft gimmick? He loves the player who falls in the draft - and the cuts to that player in the green room EVERY SINGLE PICK until he’s selected. Nick and I also share our favorites, and they include muscle-bound former athletes on a fake field in shirt and tie, and webcams that look like GMs are covering the war.

Of all time, what’s the most memorable moment in draft history...at least the last 15 years? Is it McNabb being booed? Is it his beloved Vikings missing their pick? Drew actually liked the Vikings pick that year, so he goes with the Brady Quinn situation. Every time a pick came in and they panned to Quinn...gold.

With the recent news of a few high profile players testing positive for drugs, we ask if would Drew be upset if his team picked one of those players. Drew invokes the name of Warren Sapp who dropped because of the same reason, and will most likely end up in the Hall of Fame.

We ask Drew a few either/or questions - does he watch the NFL Network or ESPN? And even though the NFL Network is part of the league that runs the draft, aren’t they the ones who feel like outsiders?

Next, is Drew a Mel or McShay guy? He claims to never have seen McShay on air (other than YouTube clips). And Drew, like myself, is a fan of Mel.

But we discuss the idea that Mel could be on his way out with the new shift that ESPN seems to be taking. And that brings up the additions of Matt Millen and Adam Schefter into the fold next season. Is Schefter the best at his job, and does that put some of the other ESPN reporters on notice to up their game? They aren’t bringing in Schefter to get less face time than John Clayton and Michael Smith, so could he be a challenge to Chris Mortensen or Sal Paolantonio?

There have been lots of media moves this offseason, so we discuss what the biggest story is. Is it John Madden’s retirement?

There was also some actual football news this week, including the trade of Tony Gonzalez (who Drew and Nick call Gonzo the whole time). Drew asks if Eagles fans are upset that they didn’t get him and Nick, at least, seems fine with it. We also discuss the contract extension for 34-year old Jake Delhomme, who is getting a five year deal with $20-million guaranteed. Wow.

Last, how is Drew doing as host of a podcast? Is it all he thought it would be and more?

Housekeeping:

We discuss two tech stories, thrown into housekeeping. First, per Puck Daddy, Kevin Smith was booted from NHL.com for using Wayne Gretzky’s name in vain. Or instead of a curse. Lighten up, NHL...it’s funny.

Second, we discuss the fact that the Sixers are GIVING AWAY PLAYOFF TICKETS. And using Twitter to do it. If that building isn’t full tonight, it’s more an indictment on the city than the team. (That said, I can’t go).
