PODCAST: ON THE DL

Good Friday to you.

We first talk college football, including the official hiring of Brian Kelly at Notre Dame. He’s a great coach -- better in the last two years than Bob Stoops -- but will his personal values jibe with those at Notre Dame. And has the school compromised it’s bedrock beliefs by hiring a football coach, and the most visible member of its staff, who believes in something so fundamentally incongruent to their beliefs? In other words, is winning football more important than values? And is that fair for us, or anyone, to question?

We then talk Heisman trophy, and really discuss the fact that winning truly is a curse. If Mark Ingram wins, he’ll be just the second running back in the last 10 years to do so (Reggie Bush in 2005) and just the eighth non-quarterback in the last 20 years. But if one of the quarterbacks wins, he can kiss an NFL career goodbye. Really, the only quarterback who won the Heisman who has done anything in the NFL since 1986 when Vinny Testaverde won the trophy has been Carson Palmer. Sure Matt Leinart might be good at some point, but look at the list:

Sam Bradford - projected to be a good to very good NFL quarterback.

Tim Tebow - not highly regarded as an NFL prospect.

Troy Smith - NFL backup

Matt Leinart - NFL backup who could be great or a bust at some point

Jason White

Carson Palmer - very good NFL quarterback

Eric Crouch

Chris Weinke

Danny Wuerffel

Charlie Ward

Gino Torretta

Ty Detmer

Andre Ware

Yikes.

Speculation Station:

Reports on Access Hollywood that Tiger had a madam who set him up with at least two of the girls he’s been linked with. She told the tabloid show that she knows of at least ‘half a dozen’ more women Tiger has paid to be with, upwards of $10-50,000 a night.

And then Tigers makes these women his girlfriends? Texting them and telling them how he wishes he was with them? LOL OMG?

It’s pathological. Even if Tiger and Elin had a political arrangement in their marriage, they brought kids into the world. Sure they are young, but Tiger is sleeping with half of the country while his wife is pregnant with his kid? And THIS is the legacy you want to leave your kids? It’s sickening.

Culture Pop:

We preview the season finale of Dexter and give our guesses as to what will happen. Not the boy...please not the boy....

Thanks for listening and Happy Hanukkah to all.
