PODCAST: ON THE DL
PODCAST: ON THE DL
Let’s get right to the point. I’m going to Vegas for the Super Bowl to play in a high-stakes poker tournament billed as the World Championship of Trash Talk. And I get to bring a blogger friend with me.
Josh Zerkle and Matt Sebek are battling it out for that honor (to go to Vegas, not necessarily to hang out with me) so go over to our page dedicated to the contest and vote for one of them. Or both, if you can. Just go vote. More information about the tournament and the charity on that page.
What’s fun is that on today’s show I surprised the two of them with a phone call to record their pitches to come on the trip. Fun stuff.
Nick and I also talk about the Aussie Open and how great it is that matches are on all night (for those who go to sleep late or wake up early). We discuss Andy Roddick’s outburst of expletives. That’s totally not his fault, despite his apology. But should sports on TV be on a five-second delay? Is this ESPN’s fault for getting us too close to the action?
Personally, I love it and appreciate the fact that ESPN does things live. But with outbursts like this, will it change in the future? Andy Hutchins at The Sporting Blog suggested that it might, so Nick and I debate that point.
Court Report:
We discuss Jim Calhoun’s decision to take a leave of absence and turn the conversation into a talk about how hard college coaches work. It’s just a self-fullfilling prophecy...if they all cut two hours out of their day for sleep and/or family it would be so much better for all of them. That’s not to say work had anything to do with Calhoun’s medical situation. Just a point we bring up.
Housekeeping:
We talk about Dexter at the Golden Globes, Conan’s buyout and another earthquake in Haiti. Josh Levin from Slate on tomorrow.
Thanks for listening and go vote!
